Dmoz DMOZ may resemble a portal but it is neither a portal nor a search engine. It is a Web directory that offers a search query. Its main purpose is to list and categorize web sites and this makes it a data provider. The database of ODP is freely used by other search engines like AOL, Netscape and Google. They install their own search functionality on their respective sites and ODP has no influence or knowledge on how these engines process search queries.
